In each island of the project, a service provider is responsible for deploying the actions in schools and adapting them if necessary to the local context. Each service provider is a full-fledged player in the project and, in this sense, a driving force behind AMEO’s proposals.
Ile Maurice et Rodrigues
The mission of the NGO Reef Conservation is to protect and preserve the coastal and marine resources of the Republic of Mauritius. She is a member of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and acts as the official national operator of the Eco-Schools, Young Reporters for the Environment and Green Key programmes in Mauritius. Reef Conservation was the provider in Mauritius of the PAREO project (2019-2023), which was deployed in three schools and included teacher training, student support in the classroom and in the field, an artistic interpretation of coral reefs and associated environmental challenges, as well as a local restitution workshop.
Les Seychelles
Created in 2009, the Yes Consulting structure’s primary mission is to develop and implement projects in partnership with public and private stakeholders, with the aim of reducing plastic pollution and preventing plastic waste from reaching the ocean. For the past few years, convinced that the preservation of coral reefs is essential to the good health of ocean ecosystems, Yes Consulting has integrated its actions into a broader approach to raising public awareness. In 2022 and 2023, as part of the DIDEM project, PAREO 2 – Seychelles, Yes Consulting was selected by the IRD as a provider to roll out the project in schools in Praslin.
Les Comores
Mohéli National Park, the first protected area created in the Comoros, was officially established on 19 April 2001 to preserve the island’s natural wealth and promote sustainable management of land and marine resources. The Park covers a total area of 644 km2 representing nearly 80% of the island’s territory. It carries out missions to protect land and marine environments and has a major role in terms of sustainable management of the island’s natural resources, support for local communities as well as education on environmental protection. In addition, in 2023 and 2024, as part of the DIDEM project, PAREO 2, the Park was already a local service provider for the IRD and a team of 3 facilitators was formed on this occasion.
Madagascar
CETAMADA is a Malagasy association based in Sainte-Marie, committed for more than twenty years to the conservation of marine mammals, marine biodiversity and coastal habitats in Madagascar. Its approach is based on an integrated vision combining scientific research, responsible eco-tourism, community development and education to the marine environment. Environmental education is now one of the major areas of intervention of the association, which regularly carries out awareness-raising activities in primary schools, middle schools and high schools in Sainte-Marie.
